4/11/05 UPDATE:
--------------

The previous release of this product contained a few incorrect textures. If you downloaded PSA7378.ZIP prior to 4/11/05 please replace the textures with the ones included in this package.

Introduction:
-------------

This aircraft was 'cobbled' together using parts from pre-existing planes. I started with the 737-800 Paint Kit uploaded to SurClaro by Udo Entenmann (who's model was originally created by Kim Simmelink, Bruce Bridges, and Stephan Scholz) - (b738mst.zip). To this I added the textures from both Frank Safranek's FS5 PSA Boeing 737-214 (B737PSA.ZIP) and Udo Entenmann's Paint Kit. Also included is a 737 Checklist created by Chris van Bijlert (B737CH.ZIP). My contribution to the project was searching for and assembling the parts, the modifing the individual textures that were not fully compatable with the model. The majority of the work concentrated on attempting to get the windows to look something like those on 800 model (the number and size isn't correct, but the spacing is close).

This effort started as out of a personal desire of mine to have a FS98 compatible 737-500 in PSA's final 'fruit stripe' livery. Of course, PSA never operated a -800 series 737, so this is a completely fictional/'what-if' aircraft. That said, given PSA's legacy as the premier California intrastate carrier from the 60s until it's untimely demise in 1988, I believe if it had survived into the 90s and 2000's, the 737. would've been the idea aircraft for it's west coast operations. Given the 800 series passenger capacity, it would seem to be a good candidate for replacing PSA's earlier Boeing 727s and McDonnell-Douglas MD-8X series aircraft (with the -514 model I released earlier serving to replace their troublesome BAe 146-200 aircraft).

Above you will find a list of all the original authors who created the various parts used to assemble this product.

The original AFX file and textures were created by Kim Simmelink and put up for download at the Freeflight Design Shop website (http://www.freeflightdesign.com). The same applies to the Winglets, etc mods done by Mr Scholz. I have included the standard text file required by that group when using their AFX/Model files (FFSTD.TXT).

Mr. Safranek has graciously given me permission to reuse his original PSA 737-214 texture files. All rights to these textures revert back to Mr. Safranek as the original artist. Please visit Mr. Safranek's website at http://www.mirage4fs.com

Mr Entenmann has graciously given me permission to reuse his 737-800 w/winglets paint kit for this project.

Unfortunately, I was unable to find current contact information for Mr. Bridges. All rights pertaining to his contributions to this product revert back to him.

I would also like to thank and acknowledge the following software authors for providing programs to the flightsim community that I've found invaluable in this project.

- TEXTURE CONVERTER by Kai-Wang Erlandsen (TEXCON01.ZIP & TEXCONU1.ZIP)
- TEXTURE VIEWER by Masakazu Irie (DPTXV11.ZIP)

Texture Commentary:
------------------

(lifted from Mr. Safranek's original documentation)

COLOR NOTES (PURISTS PLEASE FORGIVE ME -- ITS JUST A HOBBY)

The initial markings for PSA's 737s were red stipes on white. An nice example of this finish is available in Kevin Trinkle's PSA737 file. This livery was replaced with the 'shocking pink' scheme -- tricolor bands of pink/orange/red over a white fuselage -- in 1970 and eventually included the prominent smile under the nose. Flight Simulator does not include any sort of pink in the color palette so a truely accurate aircraft is not possible. The colors I've used here as a compromise are those adopted by PSA during the late 1970s. The layout of the stripes is the same. This scheme was sometimes known as the "Fruit Stripes".

Addenda

When PSA adopted the 'Fruit Stripes' scheme, the PSA lettering on the sides of the fuselage and tail were changed from a solid black font to an open font (white lettering with black outlines). Mr. Safranek's textures used the late-period fruit-stripe colors with the shocking-pink era solid lettering. Since this is a fictional "what-if" plane, I didn't see the need to change this. YMMV, but I happen to prefer the solid lettering.

Recommendations:
----------------

PSA's home base was at SAN - Lindburgh Field in San Diego, CA. Unfortunately, the default FS98 Scenery for San Diego is not only flat, but is really lacking in detail. If you want to get a good idea of what it's like to fly out of San Diego I would strongly suggest getting and installing Kevin Trinkle's San Diego v4.1 scenery package at SurClaro (SAN98-41.ZIP). The raised elevation in the background in my screen-shot included with this package is a direct result of the addition of this scenery package.

To this I also added San Diego Rwy 27 ILS Addition by Bud Jamison (SAN-27.ZIP). Runway 27 at Lindburgh is one of the most dangerous approaches in the world. Mr Jamison's package adds adds an ILS and marker to Rwy 27 (along with a few other mods). This package is an add-on to Mr. Trinkle's scenery package.

To enhance the experience even further you can add James Wolken's Marine Corps Recruit Depot scenery (MCRDSD.ZIP) which is located adjacent to Lindburgh Field. If you install this scenery, assign it a higher level than Mr Trinkle's scenery package to avoid conflicts.

Installation:
-------------

Unzip this archive into your Flight Simulator\Aircraft directory. The files should automatically be directed into the proper folders as follows:

Aircraft.CFG and *.AIR: Main folder which has the same name as the aircraft files
All other folders are in this one
Model.CFG and *.MDL: MODEL folder
Sound.CFG : SOUND folder
*.*AF : TEXTURE folder

NOTE: This plane requires the Microsoft FlightShop Converter for FS98!!! The plane is fully FS98 compatable and does not need to be converted. However, without the converter installed FS will not be able to locate the default panel and the plane will not show up in the Select Aircraft Menu.
