Boeing Canada Canso A (22022): Originally built in 1944 under license by Boeing Canada this Canso served with the Royal Canadian Air Force during wartime. Post war it was converted to 28-5ACF (civilian) status having its blisters and nose turret removed and faired over. In its lifetime it had at least 8 owners in various North, South and Central American countries. It apparently had a covert communications role in the 'Bay of Pigs' operation in Cuba. It also starred in the Pearl Harbour movie 'Tora Tora Tora'. It had also flown at one time with the Cousteau Society. As N5405J, the aircraft’s last owner was the Catalina Group of New Zealand. The registration ZK-PBY was reserved for the aircraft but never taken up as the aircraft made a forced landing and eventually sank in the mid-Pacific in early January 1994 during the ferry flight to New Zealand.
