Matt's Trees. Vol I - Eucalypts.

FS9. Library of 19 autogen-like tree objects for
Rwy12 and ObPlacerXML. Freeware by Matthew Tomkins.

DESCRIPTION.

Comprises a library of 19 autogen-like cross-plain tree objects for Rwy12 and ObPlacerXML. The objects are not subject to shade from directional light, do not produce ground shadows and disappear at the same distance as autogen trees. The images are of eucalypts, with no seasonal variation. They are principally designed to supplement my OZtree Autogen tree textures, which can be found at the Virtual VFR Club website and the Aussim site .

INSTALATION.

(1) Firstly, unzip the file into a temporary folder.

(2) Copy and paste the 'Static Objects Library' folder into the FS9 /Addon Scenery folder;
(a) If you already have this in your Addon Scenery folder, then click on 'yes' to replace.
(b) If you don't have this in your Addon Scenery folder, then activate the scenery area in the normal way adding it to the Scenery Library list in the Settings section.

(3) If you use Rwy12, then open 'Matt's Trees1 for RWY12';
(a) Copy and paste the 'Rwy12' folder into the /Rwy12 Object Placer folder.

(4) If you use ObPlacerXML, then open 'Matt's Trees1 for ObPlacer';
(a) Copy and paste the MTtrees1.xml file into the /ObPlacer XML folder
(b) Copy and paste the 19 JPG files into the /ObPlacer XML/pics folder.

Note: For some yet-to-be-explained reason, FS9 occasionally won't recognise library object textures located in addon scenery folders. If you find, therefore, that the objects won't display try moving or adding a copy of MTtrees1.BMP into the main FS9 /Texture folder.

PROBLEMS/LIMITATIONS.

The anti-aliasing chews into the tree images a bit. They were originally designed for FS2K2 and it seems to me the anti-aliasing in FS9 is a little stronger. Sorry about that. The objects appear a too dark during hard winter conditions at higher northern hemisphere latitudes. However, I don't expect eucalypts have ever been found in these locations, I so can't imagine anyone wanting to place them there in FS.

Many thanks to Martin Wright for his DXTbmp programs and Arno Gerretsen for his Library CreatorXML utility. This package would have been impossible without their fantastic freeware tools. Thanks also to Murray and Ken Anderson for their early assistance with Photoshop, Martin Wright and Gerrish Grey for their help with my enquiries about digital graphics and tree design for FS, Arno and Dick (rhumbaflappy) for their help with coding the objects and Bogaert T. for his 'Gmax Installation Guide'. Further thanks go to Mal Lloyd, David Marshall and Jeff Stanyer for beta testing the library. Special thanks go to Gerrish as his FS horticulture was the original inspiration for the development of these images and Arno for spelling out all the ASM edits that enable the objects to behave like autogen trees.
