DESCRIPTION:

-Improved sound package for the FS98 Piper Seneca V. Recommended for use with the excellent PSV model by the FlightSim Developers Group. Based on their authentic sound files from FSD-PSup.zip.

-Improvements from version 1.0 include:
-Better distinction between internal and external engine sounds through filtering
-Stereo internal engine sounds
-Now uses a total of eight engine wav files
-New kind of stereo effect for cockpit sounds (Both channels actually have slightly different pitches. Not just one channel inverted, reversed, or delayed from the other.)
-Better sound.cfg file
-Gear sounds with more accurate lengths
-Fancy touchdown sounds

-Improvements for version 1.5 include:
-An even better sound.cfg file
-Clean-sounding psv_3(x).wav sound file
-Some fixes to the gear and -touchdown sounds for realism

-Most sounds sampled at 22,050 Hz. Sounds with little content above 5 kHz have been downsampled to 11,025 Hz to reduce filesize. Attempted to make distortion in original files less noticeable. Cockpit sounds now use Microsoft ADPCM compression to reduce filesize (engine sounds remain uncompressed).

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS:

1. Delete ALL the files in your PSV (Piper Seneca V)'s Sound directory.
2. Copy all of the wav files and the sound.cfg file to that directory.
3. For the best sound quality, the [SOUND] group in your FLTSIM98.CFG file should look like this (if it doesn't exist then create it):

[SOUND]
Channels=2
SamplesPerSec=22050
BitsPerSample=16

Note1: Unlike previous works, setting Channels=1 will not nullify any sounds.
Note2: To check whether you have the MS ADPCM decompressor driver installed in Win95, go to the Multimedia Properties in your Control Panel and select the Advanced tab. The "tree" should go like this: "Multimedia Drivers -> Audio Compression Codecs -> Microsoft ADPCM CODEC" This driver comes with the installation of Windows.

4. Save the file and fly.

CREATED/TESTED USING:

Software:
-CoolEdit 96 Registered -Demo available at http://www.syntrillium.com/
-Microsoft (ugh!) FlightSimulator 98 (latest build)
-Piper Seneca V model by the FSD (recommended)
-Piper Seneca V panel by Alexander Lawrence (version 2.0 recommended)

Hardware:
-dnb Asonic Gold soundcard (the noisiest sound card ever!) Tested with and without "3D" sound (It's actually just widened stereo.)
-JVC HA-D424 Headphones, Bose Model 100 speakers, and a Pioneer VSX-504S Receiver for editing and in-flight testing (Believe me, these components greatly affect the sound.)

BACKGROUND:

Basically, I thought the authentic sounds that came with the PSV patch just didn't have the quality that came with the plane's model. I figured I'd have to fix that in order to fully realize the ultimate PSV experience. After the editing and testing was over with, I had to ask the FSD for permission to upload modified versions of their files, this was granted and version 1.0 was released.

However, one of the creators of the sound files, Aaron "Stretch" Swindle, was not informed properly by me or the FSD. This "copyright violation" has since been resolved. I also asked for help from Peter Sidoli himself to further improve the sounds. Again, outside help like this has proved to be highly invaluable to my work. I hope the PSV experience gets closer to the real thing than ever before.

A PLEA TO ALL SOUND FILE CREATORS:

Please use the 11025 Hz or lower sampling rate only for sounds that don't have a lot of content above 5 kHz! Oh yeah, and try compression too.

THANKS TO:

Graham "Dotcom" Waterfield of the FSD
-for allowing me upload this package based on their files.
-the best PSV model around.

Aaron "Stretch" Swindle
-for also allowing me to use those files (which are partly his).

Peter Sidoli
-for his suggestions which got this up to v1.5
-the plane model too (duh?)

Whoever I took that fancy touchdown sound from.
-It sounds great anyway even though it ain't accurate. Anyone got a better one???

The I'm-not-worthy-of-your-gorgeousness and ever-pleasant Kyler (There. I've said it.)
-for her inspiration and existence.
