Origins & Kudus

THE LOCKHEED MODEL 14 SUPER ELECTRA, A Twin-Tailed Beauty, Airliner, Personal Airplane & Warbird Alive Again in Flight Simulation - This is a series of releases of four different airframes with five different engine installations. The FSDS aircraft models are the original work of Dave Carroll. I built the flight station frames and put the instrument panels together using CFG Edit. The gauges for the FS2000 panel are Chuck Dome's. His fuel gauges were also used in the FS2002 panel along with FS2002 (Professional Edition) default gauges. This file is set up with default sounds; but, Lockheed Model 14 sound sets are provided in the file L14SDC00.ZIP.

The information used to develop this model came from:
Boyne, Walter J. Beyond the Horizons : The Lockheed Story
St. Martin's Press; ISBN: 0312192371; (October 1998)
Francillon, R. J. Lockheed Aircraft since 1913 (1982 and 1987)
Naval Institute Press, Annapolis, MD.

I was also able to reverse engineer data from old Bureau of Aeronautics aircraft characteristics files and from the PV2 (Lodestar) files on Paul MattÂ’s American Heritage CD ROM Archive 3. I further augmented this data with whatever newspaper stories I could find and internet and library searches.

These models have been almost a year in development with over 1000 hours happily spent doing it. Much more could be done and probably will; but, there comes a time when an acceptable product should be released for others to enjoy.

I hope you do enjoy the result.

INSTALLATION

All Aircraft folders - L14H2, L14N2, L14WF62, LB14L and PBO-1 - are set up to run in FS2002.
For either FS2000 or FS2002, install the aircraft folder in the FS200*\AIRCRAFT directory.

Open the folder you just installed and you will see three folders which are not required to initially operate the aircraft in FS2002. These are Configurations, FS2000 Files, FS2002, Files (BACKUP) and PDF Document. I certainly hope you will read the PDF file "The Lockheed Model 14" as it provides information about the aircraft and the models.

If you installed in FS2002, open the panel folder.
Copy the gauges in the panel\gauges folder to the FS2002\GAUGES folder.
Fly to check everything out. You may then delete un-needed folders or leave them in as you wish.
The current Aircraft.cfg is for a light aircraft and performance testing. Other configurations are provided in the Configurations folder. For FS2002 only, select a new configuration from the Configurations folder and copy it to your aircraft's folder, erase the existing Aircraft.cfg file and then rename the copied file to Aircraft.cfg. Be careful to retain the Configurations folder for backups.

If you installed in FS2000, open the FS2000 Files folder.
Copy all files and folders in the FS2000 Files folder to the installed aircraft folder (L14H2 for example).
Overwrite existing files and folders.
Open the panel folder.
Copy the gauges in the panel\gauges folder to the FS2000\GAUGES folder.
Fly to check everything out. You may wish to retain all folders for backup and/or later upgrade to FS2002.

Flight information is provided in the check lists and notes for the aircraft.
