FS2004 T-6G (LT-6G) Texan 'MOSQUITO' USAF 49-3542

Developed during the Korean War the North American T-6G
"Texan" had a steerable/lockable tail wheel and was the
final major variant of the T-6 family. A total of 97
T-6Gs were re-manufactured for the USAF as LT-6Gs and
assigned to the 6147th Tactical Control Group (TCG) -
Call sign: 'MOSQUITO' to perform Forward-Air-Control
missions (FAC) during the war (1950-1953).

FAC T-6 "Texans" differed from the T-6 trainer version
by having additional radio equipment and four to six
underwing racks for rocket launchers. Each rack held
three 2.5" smoke rockets, or one 5" rocket. Two .30 caliber
machine guns could be carried in pods under the wings,
but these were generally not installed in order to
improve performance, and because Senior Officers
discouraged FACs from engaging targets themselves.

The 6147th Tactical Control Group, was comprised of three
squadrons. The 6148th and 6149th TCS flew FAC missions,
while the 6150th operated three-man Tactical Air Control
teams on the ground, using radio equipped Jeeps. These
TACPs consisted of a Mosquito pilot, a radio technician,
and a Jeep mechanic. In the beginning, new Mosquito FAC
pilots were required to serve 60 days with a TAC Party
(team). TCG aircraft included C-47's as Airborne Command
& Control Centers.

During the Korean War (1950 - 1953) the "Mosquitos" flew
40,354 sorties, lost 33 men and 42 aircraft. They were
also responsible for the destruction of eight Communist
divisions, 563 artillery pieces, 5,079 vehicles, 12
locomotives, thousands of railcars, and 84 bridges.

Addition facts about this model:

This is a COMPLETE Gmax model with full moving parts.
Apart from previous T-6's I have rebuilt, it has an
updated aircraft.cfg file by Erick Olsson making it
a delight to fly. Now fully aerobatic, it'll even do
accurate hammerhead stalls. It also has larger gauges
in the instrument panel for easier viewing. In addition,
there is also a new custom T-6 sound package.

Worthy of mention, the new updated textures turn what had
originally been a modest visual model into a high detail
photo-realistic delight, due to being reconfigured with
dead-on accurate fuselage and wing panel lines, rivet detail,
wheels, redesigned pilot figure and a photo-real engine.

Oh, and if you don't like the correctly painted wheel hubs
for 'old #49-3542 an optional 'unpainted' wheel hub
(www.fsfab.kit.net_roda.bmp) has been included in the texture
folder.

These files are freeware. Everyone is encouraged to use
the new textures as a guide to produce additional accurate
detailed repaints of other North American AT-6, T-6, SNJ
and Harvard models using FS Design Studio released by Denis
da Silva.

Enjoy!
