TF-104G

Starfighter in the colours of the German Navy. Belonging to the Marinefliegergeschwader 1 Schleswig, West Germany. MFG F-104Gs wore a two-tone grey scheme throughout their careers, the slate upper grey proving very effective over the Baltic Sea. The orang panels on the tanks were for peacetime conspicuity.

MFG 1 at Schleswig received its first F-104G in September 1963, and built up to a two-Staffel complement, both assigned to anti-ship duties. MFG 2 at Eggebeck received the 'Star' in 1965. 1. Staffel operated the RF-104G on reconniaissance tasks, while 2./MFG 2 was a strike unit. MFG 1 converted to the Tornado first, in 1981/82, while MFG 2 operated the F-104G until 1986.
