CYQM – Moncton International Airport V1.0
Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada
FS2002 Scenery Enhancement

Authors: Craig Mosher, Steve Mosher

Moncton International is New Brunswick’s busiest airport serving over 400,000 passengers a year. The Greater Moncton Airport (GMA) year-end customer statistics set a new record in 2001. The year-end total of 414,574 customers represents an 11.4% increase over 2000 and a 73% increase since the airport transferred in 1997. GMA also recorded the largest monthly total ever recorded by the airport in August by serving 50,093 customers, surpassing an airport goal of over fifty thousand customers in one calendar month. Recorded Cargo statistics for 2001 show that GMA had 20,149,599 kilograms pass through the airport up by 18.1% from the previous year.

GMA is only our second attempt at FS Scenery (CYHZ being the first)…we still find ourselves learning as we go along. This is Version 1.0, and primarily focuses on replacing all of the buildings on the airside of the facility with accurate, custom built, photo-textured GMAX models, including a detailed terminal/control tower and a dozen or so support buildings. In addition to this, we have also developed some static scenery and taxiway/runway signs. The default runways, ramps and taxiways are unaltered.

One of our primary goals was to achieve high performance scenery with good framerates. GMAX seems to have made this possible. We have not had any performance issues to speak of (Athlon 1900XP, Geforce 3).

As we learn more about scenery design, and as Microsoft continues to release additional SDK’s we’ll continue to improve this scenery. We expect to replace all of the default surfaces, add animations and improve overall detail in version 2.

CYQM opens a new Terminal in the Fall of 2002 (it is modeled in this scenery package, but not yet functional). We will update CYQM with a complete ATB when the facility actually opens…around the beginning on October.

Installation:

Go to fs2002 main scenery directory....

1 make a sub-directory called CYQM
2 make two subdirectories under that… scenery and texture
3 place all *.bgl in scenery
4 place all *.bmp in texture
5 ignore all others
6 start fs2002 and go to any airport
7 go to the world menu in FS2002
8 go to scenery library
9 click add scenery
10 browse to the directory CYQM
11 give the scenery any name
12 It should now show on the scenery list as active

Make sure your scenery density is set to “normal” or higher. Nothing will show up in FS2002 at levels below “normal”

In addition to these files there is also an AFCAD file that co-ordinates AI with the new terminal layout. Refer to your AFCAD documentation for installation of this file. The file is called CYQM1.txt
