You must have the ERJ panel from ERJ_grab.zip already installed in the default locations for this upgrade.

////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

Changes in this upgrade dated October 18, 2002 ...

1. New main bitmap art to correct double text images.

2. New aircraft.cfg for airplanes so NAV2 will work.

3. Corrected pitch flutter for elevators.

4. Corrected out of memory errors when using arc mode.

5. Fuel flow in kilograms now correct.

6. Text is now sized correctly and radio boxes align.

7. Click on the glareshield "ERJ-145" sign to change designations to "ERJ-140" then to "ERJ-135". If "ERJ-135", the takeoff thrust rating changes to "T/O" instead of "T/O-1" and EICAS warning message "CHECK A1 PERF" to "CHECK A1/3 PERF".

8. EICAS now stays on when the Avionics Master switch is turned off, since this is an essential instrument.

9. "DFDR Fail" EICAS warning message goes out when not on ground, since flight recorder automatically comes on with takeoff since it is tied to weight on wheels.

10. CDI and OBI for NAV1 in arc mode (green OBI) is now seen throughout 360 degrees.

11. Flaps position now registers 0,9,22,45 in FS2002.

12. The Pitch Limit Indicator now moves down as the angle of attack gets closer to the stick shaker limit.

13. The COM1 Radio now works in FS2002, setting digits at 25khz intervals.

14. The Flight Director disappears after landing when an ILS approach is used.

15. Until the CPL button on the FGC is pressed, the green couple arrow in the PFD points to right to the first officer autopilot.

16. The flight director will now detect, follow, and capture a localizer and glide slope whether the autopilot is on or not in FS2002.

17. The MFD menu pages have been rewritten. The system pages will not disappear when going to the speeds page.

18. A TCAS for FS2002 has been added courtesy of Daniel Steiner, accessible through the TCAS menu option on the Main MFD page. This is a brilliant piece of work written for the ERJ. Thank you Daniel!! (NOTE: this has since been replaced by the built-in TCAS on the MFD. See #63 below.)

19. The temperatures on the MFD no longer change color to ice blue when below 0 degrees, but stay green as they do on the real ERJ.

20. Speed target in PFD now shows "---" instead of programmed speed and the speed bug disappears when using FLC vertical mode and in a descent.

21. The digital airspeed now disappears completely when speed is less than 40 knots.

22. The digital airspeed now turns red when exceeding maximum allowed speed.

23. Mach airspeed now disappears below mach .45.

24. Mach speed is now displayed in the format ".765M", and turns red when exceeding the max allowed speed.

25. In the panel.cfg file, the [colors] setting for night and luminous are 0,0,0 so that the panel will be dark.

26. The flight director (FD) now works in FS2002 without having the autopilot engaged. To follow the heading, push the HDG button on the FGC. For vertical mode altitude change and altitude capture, push the desired vertical mode button (VS, SPD, or FLC) after setting the new altitude target. The FD will also follow a nav1 vor, by pushing the NAV button.

27. If a V-speed is selected on the V-speeds page and the RTN button on the MFD is pushed, the V-speed will be de-selected so that the map range may be changed.

28. ILS and VOR1 flight director tracking is now much more accurate. An ILS can be followed all the way down using only the FD now.

29. The engine start switch operation has been modified so that one mouse click on the START position with the fuel pumps and apu (or other engine) on will cause an autostart sequence, and the switch will return to the GEN position. The START switch no longer has to be held in the START position until N2 reaches 20%. This mimics the real ERJ engine start. Thank you Daniel Steiner for the solution to this problem!

30. A dummy wiper switch has been placed on the overhead panel to replace the missing FPDA switch used in the FS2000 version.

31. SPD mode now captures ALT properly in FS2002.

32. The EICAS advisory cyan message "CROSS BLD OPEN" is displayed during each engine start routine. If not already manually opened, the logic opens up the pneumatic cross bleed during an engine start.

33. A "--" will now appear on the EICAS between flap transitions.

34. The VAPP mode will now capture and fly the VOR1 radial with the autopilot on.

35. The wind speed and direction are not longer displayed on the PFD and MFD while on the ground.

36. The TAS will show "0" when TAS is less than 40 knots.

37. When there is no signal received for VOR1 or an ILS indicating a Course Deviation Failure, the CDI pointer is removed and a red "X" is displayed over the dot scale.

38. Improved art for Turn Coordinator.

39. More accurate Track bug position.

40. After turning on the Red Beacon prior to engine start, the Ground Power Avail light will extinguish after 10 seconds and the red colored open doors on the Takeoff Page of the MFD will sequentially start to close over the period of the next 30 seconds. The doors will not reopen until after both engines have shut down.

41. The GPSP/TTG indication on the PFD has been improved. If there is a valid VOR or ILS signal with DME, GPSD will show the proper groundspeed. If there is a valid VOR or ILS signal without DME, GPSD will show zero. However, if there is no valid signal or no valid DME, GPSP will show amber dashes.

42. If the trim button on the yoke is toggled while the autopilot is on, the autopilot will disengage. This will not happen if the trim is set from the keyboard or a progammed joystick button.

43. An aural alert of "TAKEOFF - TRIM" will occur if the trim is not in the green zone when the TAKEOFF CONFIG button on the throttle pedestal is pushed.

44. The APU percent will no longer "run away" after start if the overhead panel is deselected.

45. When the Red Beacon is now turned off on the ground with engines shut down, the Ground Power Avail light will appear and the airplane doors on the Takeoff Page of the MFD will open sequentially over 30 seconds.

46. The trim degree indication will be green when in the takeoff green zone on the ground, but when in the air, any positive trim setting will be green. (Thanks Kevin Au)

47. The Flight Director bank (lateral) response to an ILS approach has been corrected so that it now accurately predicts the approach anywhere in the world, and not just Chicago. The pitch response of the FD has also been tightened up to decrease pitch commands in response to the Glide Slope. (Thanks to our friends at Microsoft for the little jewel of a hint that allowed the FD bank solution)

48. The thrust management has been improved to increase altitude performance for all models of the ERJ. With increasing altitude there will be a corresponding increase in the percent requested N1, which will change dynamically on the EICAS annunciation. For those using throttles passing through the gameport, the throttle will be reset to the higher or lower value if the throttle handle position is beyond the requested point. This feature will not work if the throttle passes through the serial port (Precision Flight Controls) or USB port.

49. The low bank mode (BNK) is annunciated only while the HDG mode is active. The mode remains selected if HDG mode is deactivated, and is reactivated and annunciated if HDG mode is selected again.

50. The flight director now tracks the outbound radial while in NAV mode.

51. The BNK indicator will no longer appear on when initially selecting the ERJ.

52. The blue vertical speed target bug on the PFD will only appear when in VS vertical mode.

53. A wind correction factor has now been added to the flight director when tracking a VOR radial.

54. The "red lines" that appearred on the HSI background when in any video mode greater than 1600x has been fixed.

55. Upon landing, the spoilers will deploy, but the spoiler handle will no longer move to the deployed position.

56. New cockpit aural alerts recorded from real ERJ's, thanks to Andreas Fuchs.

57. New aircraft sound files created by Erick Cantu/FFX located in the "ERJ Extras" folder, modified by myself with recordings from an ERJ cockpit.

58. New .air files by Sam Chin located in the "ERJ Extras" folder.

59. For European users of FS2002 there is now a facility to allow adjusting the ADF frequency to get the fractional 0.5 used on some NDB's. There is now a number ".5" on the radio panel on the higher of the two lowest switches on the right side. Over this switch is a mouse zone indicated by a "plus hand." This will toggle the ACTIVE ADF decimal frequency between 0.0 and 0.5, no matter what decimal number is showing in the standby frequency.

60. When the throttles are advanced to takeoff position and any items are not configured for takeoff, there will be an aural alert as if the "Takeoff Config" button were pushed. These alerts will be removed then takeoff conditions are satisfied.

61. When the high speed warning is active, the Master Warning light will now also blink. The aural high speed warning and the Master Warning blinking can both be terminated by pushing the Master Warning button, even though a high speed condition will still exist and will be so reflected on the PFD.

62. The entire flight plan now appears on the MFD when loaded from the Flight Planner menu. MAP and PLAN modes now appear for the flight plan when the MAP/PLAN button is cycled, and the appropriate mode is boxed.

63. An upgraded TCAS has been added, with aural and visual PFD alerts. This works with AI traffic, and with multiplayer traffic using AIBridge. The range for the TCAS is set on the bottom left box of the RMU (Radio Management Unit), and the Transponder box has been moved to the right lower box. Click the upper button on the RMU next to the TCAS DSPY 1 box to increase range, lower button to decrease range.

64. When within the range of 1000'- 250' above or below the autopilot selected target altitude, in addition to the aural alert chimes, the target altitude above the altitude tape on the PFD and its surrounding box will turn amber.

65. A new button has been added to the right side of the thrust rating panel which, when pressed, will decouple the throttles from the thrust rating limits on N1. This will allow the panel to be used with other airplanes where limiting the thrust is undesirable.

66. Adds a new "REAR" view, which simulates looking back along the airplane from the captain's back left cockpit window. This view is recognized by visualizing the left wing from the window.

Notes on FS2002 use...

1. To keep from having the dreaded message asking whether you want to use the FSSound.dll module at startup, add the following lines to the FS2002.cfg file in the main FS2002 directory...

[OLDMODULES]
FSSound.dll=1
FSNav.dll=1 ; for users of FSNavigator

...or use the updated FSSound.dll that FS2002 recognizes, which is located in the Modules directory of this update and will be automatically loaded if you've unzipped the entire contents into the main FS2002 directory.

2. To enable opertion of the NAV2 radio, add the following lines to the Aircraft.cfg file of any aircraft...

[Radios]
Audio.1=1
Com.1=1, 1
Com.2=1, 1
Nav.1=1, 1, 1
Nav.2=1, 1, 0
Adf.1=1
Transponder.1=1
Marker.1=1

3. To eliminate the persistent "wings level" condition that prevents manual turns when the autopilot is on but heading hold is not on, add the following line to the Aircraft.cfg file of any aircraft under the [Autopilot] heading ...

[Autopilot]
use_no_default_bank=1

4. To keep the autopilot from activating whenever you select a mode on the FGC, change the following in your Aircraft.cfg file (especially to disable the autothrottle):

[autopilot]
autopilot_available=1
flight_director_available=0
autothrottle_available=0 // VERY IMPORTANT!

5. The ERJ Tutorial Flight in FS2002 can be found by going to the "Select a Flight..." under the "File" menu, then under "1. Choose a Category:", select "ERJ". "ERJ Panel Tutorial" will then appear under "2. Choose a flight:".

6. If using FS2002, the "panel.cfg" file disables the wiper gauge, which doesn't work in FS2002.

7. In the "ERJ Extras" folder is a new V-speed chart for the ERJ-135, thanks to Kevin Au of Continental Express, who got these from first hand flying experience. Thanks Kevin...again!

///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

To install...

1. Unzip the contents of the ERJgrab2.zip file into a temporary directory.

2. Copy the "Aircraft", "Modules", "Gauges", and "Flights" folders to your main FS2002 directory. These files will then be put in their proper places.

3. Install the latest version of the great Peter Dowson's FSUIPC.DLL into your FS2002\Modules directory.

4. In the "ERJ Extras" folder there is a new aircraft sound set in the subfolder "Sound". Copy this to your desired aircraft Sound folder. Thanks Erick Cantu!

5. Read the text document in the "Aircraft\fsfsconv\panel.ERJgrab\ERJ Docs" folder discussing the TCAS system.
