My tribute to Flt Lt Art Stacey, who’s Nimrod R1 suffered an uncontained failure of a starter motor, rupturing the wing tank and causing a catastrophic fire to break out. Flt Lt Stacey had no choice but to ditch in the Moray Firth, however due to both his airmanship and sturdiness of the airframe all 7 of the crew escaped and were winched to safety.
