This is the second large-scale flying boat that Kawanishi produced. As a succession machine of Type 90 No2 flying boat,This was ordered to Kawanishi as Type 9 test flying boat in 1934. The chief design person is Shizuo Kikuhara engineer. (Afterwards, take charge of the design of Type 2 flying boat and PS-1. ) To fill long large cruising range and a big airlift, four engines are installed in this aircraft. A long and slender main wing of aspect ratio 9.7 is adopted. Because Type 97 adopted a smart body,A triangular prop is put up in two places in the body upper part and it ties to the main wing and the prop was diagonally extended from the lower side of the body and the main wing was supported. The Bv222 Viking was an aircraft of truly impressive size, and equally impressive characteristics. It also happened to be the largest flying boat to achieve operation status, and the second largest flying boat of the war. (Surpassed only by its cousin, the Bv238.) The Bv222 was designed by Herr R. Schubert and Dr. Ing. Richard Vogt, and was tailored to meet a requirement issued in 1937 for the Lufthansa. The requirement was for a long-range passenger transport to operate from Berlin to New York. Furthermore, the aircraft would have to make the trip in 20 hours with at least 16 passengers (24 passengers were to be carried on shorter routes.) Over 13,000 were produced. This FSDSv3 project has the usual animations, crew figures, transparent glass, Landing and Nav lights. It features both a reflective silver and the blue yellow liveries of that period. The 2D panel is based on a photo and the VC has moving throttle, joy stick and rudder pedals. The SM55x was a double body flying boat with two twin-row 18 cylinders radial engines mounted in-line high over the cockpit in a pusher-puller configuration. The SM55X was not particularly fast, or maneuvrable, or fuel effective, or anything. But it surely was one beautiful airplane. In 1933 Italys Ministry of the Air, Gen. I. Balbo flew the plane depicted in this model from Italy to Iceland, Canada the U.S. and back home leading a fleet of 26 SM55X planes, the flight was sponsored by the Italian Air Force to celebrate its first 10 years of existence.
