VATSIM Simclient Developers Working on MSFS2002 Compatability

General stories

Members of the SimClients team have been flooded with e-mail with requests for FS2002 and SquawkBox support, and questions about when VATSIM and Simclients intends to release an FS2002-enabled product.

We have been unable to develop a FS2002-enabled SquawkBox build while FS2002 was in beta, as we were not invited to join the beta test (despite making a formal request) and, for obvious reasons, we did not want to ask anybody to breach their NDA in order to illegally make use of technical details from the beta test.

Thanks to support from VATSIM, and Microsofts release of FS2002, a copy of FS2002 has been sent to one of our developers, James Willan, and he will be working on developing the patched SB2.3.

We would like to point out that the upcoming patch will not be a SB3 release. SquawkBox 3 is still far from finished, and will be released later this year - or early next year. The good news is that there will be a patched version of SB2.3 intended for use with FS2002 which will avoid the re-drawing problems by replacing the SB window with the FS multiplayer chat window, and receiving dot commands and text messages through that window. There will also be other patches to allow FS2002 support.

Please do not email Simclient developers or VATSIM asking for more updates. You now know everything that we know. Lets be patient and let the developers work. We will keep you updated of any changes or revised ETAs as to when the patched SB2.3 will be released.
